My story.

My name is Linda C. Hummer. I am an artist, teacher and storyteller. I am also fighting to survive metastasized breast cancer.

At the age of 32, the day I graduated with my masters degree in Education, I got the call from my doctor saying that I had breast cancer. That was almost eight years ago. It has been quite a journey. I now continue to take weekly chemotherapy treatments in order to control the cancer to my bones, this has worked for over two years. I hope it will work for much longer. As I fight for health, I have used my creative work to heal my spirit, as well as, my body. Please explore my site and find examples of my creative work, original art, prints, photographs and handmade and produced products for sale, as well as, information about workshops and public speaking opportunies.

My Art Work:
Painting the rest of us back in.

My work explores women's strength and power, surviving breast cancer, exploring body and sexual self after cancer, healing from abuse, surviving poverty, creating complex images of the poor, people of color, lesbians and sexual minorities and creating art that celebrates of the beauty of disabled women and women of size.

Pass it on...

(From right to left, my mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandma)
When my cancer spread to my hipbone almost three years ago, I lost my ability to walk. Since I have learned to live from a chair and to see the world from a whole new perspective. I continued to teach for a year, but had to give it up last year because of weekly treatment.

My art and and public speaking have kept me alive and active and give me an outlet for my creative expressions. In addition, the sale of my art and speaking fees are helping to subsidize my medical costs and pay for my neice and nephews to go to college. It is my greatest wish that they are able to successfully carry the educational torch I lite by becoming the first in my family i(n at least five generations) to attend and graduate from college.
